The Manaslu Circuit Trek and Tsum Valley Trek pass through restricted and protected areas of Nepal. Trekkers therefore need the appropriate trekking permits before entering these areas.
The permits required depend on your exact itinerary. For the standard Manaslu Circuit Trek, the main permits include the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), TIMS Card, Chumnubri Rural Municipality Entry Fee, and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) when the trek continues through the Annapurna Conservation Area after crossing Larkya La.
If your itinerary includes the Tsum Valley, an additional Tsum Valley Restricted Area Permit is required.
The previous requirement that a restricted-area trekker must be part of a group of at least two trekkers has been removed.
Under the revised rules introduced by the Department of Immigration in March 2026, an individual foreign trekker can obtain a restricted-area trekking permit. However, this does not mean that independent, guideless trekking is permitted in the Manaslu Restricted Area.
Solo trekkers must still:
Trek with a licensed trekking guide
Arrange the trek through a Government-registered trekking agency
Obtain the required trekking permits before entering the restricted area
Therefore, a single international traveller can now undertake a private Manaslu trek with one licensed guide through a registered trekking agency.
The Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is required for the restricted section of the Manaslu trekking route in Chumnubri Rural Municipality, Gorkha District.
According to the current Department of Immigration permit schedule:
USD 100 per person for the first 7 days
USD 15 per person per day after the first 7 days
USD 75 per person for the first 7 days
USD 10 per person per day after the first 7 days
The Manaslu Restricted Area Permit applies to the designated restricted area within Chumnubri Rural Municipality Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4.

The Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) is required for trekking within the Manaslu Conservation Area.
Current fee for international trekkers:
NPR 3,000 per person per entry
The equivalent amount in USD varies according to the exchange rate on the day of payment.
MCAP is a conservation area entrance permit, not a National Park permit.
A passport copy and passport-size photograph may be required when arranging the permit.
Trekkers completing the standard Manaslu Circuit normally enter the Annapurna Conservation Area after crossing Larkya La and continuing toward Dharapani.
Therefore, an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) is required for the applicable section of the route.
Current fee for international trekkers:
NPR 3,000 per person per entry
The equivalent amount in USD varies according to the exchange rate on the day of payment.
For more information about ACAP, please visit our dedicated ACAP Permit page.
The Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) Card is required for the Manaslu trekking routes covered by the current TIMS provisions.
The Nepal Tourism Board specifically lists the following Manaslu-area treks among routes requiring a licensed guide and TIMS Card:
Manaslu Circuit Trek
Manaslu–Tsum Valley Trek
Tsum Valley Trek
NPR 2,000 per person for international trekkers
The equivalent amount in USD varies according to the exchange rate on the day of payment.
TIMS is issued through the authorized trekking system, and the trekking agency provides the required trekker and route information.
In addition to the government trekking and conservation permits, trekkers entering the Manaslu region are subject to the Chumnubri Rural Municipality Entry Fee.
Current fee for international trekkers:
NPR 1,000 per person
The equivalent amount in USD varies according to the exchange rate on the day of payment.
This is a local entry fee administered by Chumnubri Rural Municipality and is separate from the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit and MCAP.
If your itinerary includes the Tsum Valley, you need an additional Tsum Valley Restricted Area Permit.
The Department of Immigration identifies the Tsum Valley restricted area within Chumnubri Rural Municipality Wards 3, 6 and 7, covering designated areas including:
Sirdibas
Lokpa
Chumling
Chekampar
Nile
Chule
USD 40 per person for the first 7 days
After the first 7 days:
USD 7 per person per day
USD 30 per person for the first 7 days
After the first 7 days:
USD 7 per person per day
The Tsum Valley Restricted Area Permit is an additional permit and is required when the trekking itinerary enters the designated Tsum Valley restricted area.
Depending on the permit and application procedure, trekkers should be prepared to provide:
Valid passport
Valid Nepal visa
Passport-size photograph
Trekking itinerary/program schedule
Travel insurance documents, where required
Trekker information required for the permit and TIMS application
The trekking agency handles the permit application and documentation process for its clients.
Yes, an individual foreign trekker can now obtain a Manaslu restricted-area permit.
The previous minimum requirement of two trekkers was removed by the Department of Immigration in March 2026.
However, solo does not mean without a guide.
A solo traveller must still:
Travel with a licensed trekking guide
Book the trek through a registered trekking agency
Obtain the required restricted-area and conservation permits
This means that a private Manaslu trek for one international traveller and one licensed guide is now possible, subject to the applicable permit and trekking regulations.
For a standard Manaslu Circuit Trek, the applicable permits and fees generally include:
| Permit / Fee | Current Fee for International Trekkers |
|---|---|
| Manaslu Restricted Area Permit – September to November | USD 100 for first 7 days + USD 15/day thereafter |
| Manaslu Restricted Area Permit – December to August | USD 75 for first 7 days + USD 10/day thereafter |
| Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) | NPR 3,000 |
| TIMS Card | NPR 2,000 |
| Chumnubri Rural Municipality Entry Fee | NPR 1,000 |
| Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) | NPR 3,000 |
Important: The exact permits required depend on the trekking itinerary. Trekkers who include the Tsum Valley must also obtain the applicable Tsum Valley Restricted Area Permit.
For all fees charged in Nepalese Rupees, the approximate USD value depends on the exchange rate on the day of payment.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal's outstanding Himalayan trekking routes, combining spectacular mountain scenery with traditional Himalayan villages and diverse cultural landscapes.
The route travels through the Manaslu Conservation Area and reaches Larkya La Pass, at approximately 5,100 metres, before descending toward the Annapurna region.
Mount Manaslu stands at 8,163 metres and is the world's eighth-highest mountain.
The trek is considered a challenging high-altitude trekking journey because of its long walking days, remote mountain environment, changing weather and the crossing of Larkya La Pass.
Trekkers combining the Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley need to account for both sets of restricted-area requirements.
Depending on the itinerary, the permits may include:
Manaslu Restricted Area Permit
Tsum Valley Restricted Area Permit
Manaslu Conservation Area Permit
TIMS Card
Chumnubri Rural Municipality Entry Fee
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit, where the itinerary enters the Annapurna Conservation Area
