The Poon Hill – Mardi Himal Trek is a spectacular 9-day Himalayan adventure combining two of Nepal's beautiful trekking experiences: the famous sunrise viewpoint of Poon Hill (3,210 m) and the breathtaking high-altitude landscapes of the Mardi Himal region.

This carefully designed itinerary begins with a scenic journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara, followed by a private jeep transfer to Ulleri, allowing you to begin your trekking adventure in the heart of the Annapurna region.

The trek takes you through traditional mountain villages, lush rhododendron and oak forests, peaceful sections of the Annapurna Conservation Area, terraced hillsides, and spectacular Himalayan landscapes. Along the way, you will experience the warm hospitality of local communities and enjoy increasingly impressive views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

A major highlight is the early-morning ascent to Poon Hill, where you can enjoy a magnificent sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The journey then continues toward the quieter Mardi Himal trekking route, passing through Forest Camp, Low Camp, Badal Danda, and High Camp before reaching the spectacular Mardi Himal Viewpoint at approximately 4,200 m.

Detailed Day-by-Day Trek Itinerary

The following day-by-day itinerary provides a clear overview of your Poon Hill – Mardi Himal Trek, including the trekking routes, approximate walking times, elevations, overnight stays, and key experiences along the journey.

Day 1

Kathmandu (1,400 m.) to Pokhara (822 m.) – Ulleri (2,025 m.)

Tourist Bus Departure: Approximately 7:00 AM
Departure Point: Thamel / Nayabazar, Kathmandu
Tourist Bus Duration: Approximately 8 Hours
Pokhara to Ulleri by Jeep: Approximately 3 Hours
Overnight: Hotel in Ulleri

Your adventure begins early in the morning. Our female trekking guide will pick you up from your hotel and accompany you to the tourist bus stand in Thamel, Nayabazar, ensuring that you arrive comfortably and on time before the 7:00 AM departure for Pokhara.

The scenic journey takes you through Nepal's beautiful countryside, following winding mountain roads alongside rivers and passing traditional villages, terraced hillsides, green forests, and rural landscapes.

After approximately 8 hours, you will arrive at the Pokhara Tourist Bus Park near Lakeside.

Upon arrival in Pokhara, your trekking guide will coordinate the jeep transfer from Pokhara to Ulleri, the mountain village where your trekking adventure officially begins.

The jeep journey takes approximately 3 hours, depending on road conditions and traffic.

After reaching Ulleri, check into your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening in the peaceful mountain surroundings.

Day 2 

Ulleri (2,025 m.) to Ghorepani (2,875 m.)

Walking Duration: Approximately 5–6 Hours
Elevation Gain: Approximately 850 m.

Today is your first full day of trekking.

After breakfast, begin walking from Ulleri toward Ghorepani, following a beautiful mountain trail through traditional villages and the forests of the Annapurna Conservation Area.

The trail gradually climbs through peaceful rhododendron, oak, and other Himalayan forests. Depending on the season, the forest can be particularly beautiful with flowering rhododendrons and lush vegetation.

Along the way, you will pass small settlements, stone steps, mountain streams, and scenic viewpoints.

After approximately 5–6 hours of walking, you will reach Ghorepani, a famous mountain village situated beneath the spectacular Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges.

Ghorepani is also the gateway to the famous Poon Hill sunrise viewpoint, which you will visit early the following morning.

Day 3

Ghorepani (2,875 m.) – Poon Hill (3,210 m.) – Tadapani (2,630 m.)

Early Morning Poon Hill Walk: Approximately 45 Minutes  each way
Total Walking Duration: Approximately 8 Hours
Highest Elevation: 3,210 m.
Overnight: Hotel in Tadapani

Today begins early with one of the most memorable experiences of the entire trek.

Wake up at approximately 4:30 AM and prepare for the early-morning walk to Poon Hill (3,210 m.).

The approximately 45 minutes uphill walk takes you to one of Nepal's most famous Himalayan viewpoints. As dawn approaches, the surrounding mountains gradually become illuminated by the first rays of sunlight.

From Poon Hill, enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and numerous other Himalayan peaks.

You can take time to enjoy the magnificent scenery with a hot cup of coffee or tea while watching the sunrise. Spend approximately 30 minutes or longer at the viewpoint, depending on the weather and your preference.

After enjoying the sunrise, walk downhill back to Ghorepani for breakfast.

Following breakfast, continue your trek toward Tadapani. The trail passes through beautiful forests, mountain ridges, and traditional settlements.

This is a longer trekking day, with approximately 8 hours of walking depending on your pace, rest breaks, lunch, and time spent enjoying the mountain scenery and taking photographs.

Arrive at Tadapani in the afternoon or early evening and enjoy the beautiful Himalayan surroundings.

Day 4 

Tadapani (2,630 m.) – Ghandruk (1,940 m.) – Landruk (1,565 m.)

Walking Duration: Approximately 8 Hours
Tadapani to Ghandruk: Approximately 3.5  Hours
Ghandruk to Landruk: Approximately 4.5 Hours
Overnight: Hotel in Landruk

Wake up surrounded by magnificent Himalayan scenery. From Tadapani, you can enjoy beautiful views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, and Annapurna South, standing prominently above the surrounding valleys.

After breakfast, begin the day's trek toward Ghandruk.

The trail gradually descends through beautiful forests within the Annapurna Conservation Area. This section of the trail is peaceful and enjoyable, with approximately 3.5 hours of walking before reaching Ghandruk, one of the most beautiful and culturally significant Gurung villages in the Annapurna region.

Ghandruk is known for its traditional stone houses, terraced farmland, mountain scenery, and rich Gurung culture.

Take a well-deserved lunch break in Ghandruk before continuing toward Landruk.

The afternoon trail takes approximately another 4.5 hours and passes through beautiful landscapes, villages, forests, and terraced hillsides.

After approximately 8 hours of walking in total, arrive at Landruk and check into your hotel.

Day 5 

Landruk (1,565 m.) to Forest Camp (2,520 m.)

Walking Duration: Approximately 7 Hours
Elevation Gain: Approximately 955 m.
Overnight: Hotel/Lodge in Forest Camp

Today you leave the traditional village landscapes behind and begin moving deeper toward the Mardi Himal trekking route.

After breakfast, start walking from Landruk through villages and terraced farmland before entering beautiful forested sections of the trail.

As you gain elevation, the landscape becomes increasingly peaceful and the forest becomes an important part of the journey. The trail passes through sections of rhododendron and other Himalayan vegetation.

The approximately 7-hour walk provides a wonderful transition from the traditional villages of the lower Annapurna region into the quieter and more remote surroundings of the Mardi Himal route.

Arrive at Forest Camp, check into your accommodation, and enjoy a peaceful evening surrounded by the forest.

Day 6 

Forest Camp (2,520 m.) to Low Camp (3,150 m.)

Walking Duration: Approximately 6 Hours
Elevation Gain: Approximately 630 m.

After breakfast, continue your journey toward Low Camp.

Today's trail continues through the beautiful forests of the Annapurna Conservation Area. The trail gradually gains elevation as you move higher into the Mardi Himal region.

As you climb, the vegetation begins to change and the mountain views become increasingly impressive.

With clear weather, you may begin to see beautiful views toward Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks through openings in the forest.

After approximately 6 hours of walking, arrive at Low Camp.

Enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere and prepare for the higher elevations of the following days.

Day 7 

Low Camp (3,150 m.) – Badal Danda (3,210 m.) – High Camp (3,580 m.)

Walking Duration: Approximately 7 Hours
Highest Overnight Elevation: Approximately 3,580 m.
Overnight: Hotel/Lodge in High Camp

Today is another spectacular day as the trail gradually leaves the dense forest behind and enters more open Himalayan terrain.

After breakfast, continue toward Badal Danda, walking along a beautiful ridge with increasingly expansive mountain views.

The trail then continues toward High Camp, the highest overnight point of your trek.

As you approach High Camp, the surrounding Himalayan panorama becomes even more impressive, with views toward Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and other peaks of the Annapurna range.

The total walking time is approximately 7 hours, although this can vary depending on individual walking speed, rest periods, weather conditions, and the amount of time spent enjoying the scenery and taking photographs.

Arrive at High Camp and settle into your accommodation.

Because tomorrow begins early, enjoy a relaxing evening and prepare for the sunrise experience at the Mardi Himal viewpoint.

Day 8 

High Camp (3,580 m.) – Mardi Himal Viewpoint (Approx. 4,200 m.) – Badal Danda (3,210 m.)

Early Morning Departure: Approximately 4:00 AM
Ascent to Viewpoint: Approximately 2–2.5 Hours
Highest Elevation: Approximately 4,200 m.
Overnight: Hotel/Lodge in Badal Danda

Today is one of the major highlights of your Poon Hill – Mardi Himal Trek.

Wake up very early, around 4:00 AM, and begin the uphill walk toward the Mardi Himal Viewpoint, reaching approximately 4,200 meters depending on the exact viewpoint and trail conditions.

The early morning climb takes approximately 2–2.5 hours. As daylight begins to appear, the surrounding mountains gradually come into view.

At the viewpoint, take time to enjoy the spectacular Himalayan panorama and, weather permitting, watch the sunrise over the mountains.

Enjoy a hot coffee or tea while taking in the magnificent views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

After spending sufficient time at the viewpoint, begin the downhill walk back to High Camp.

Enjoy breakfast and some rest at the hotel before continuing your descent toward Badal Danda.

The trail offers beautiful mountain views throughout the descent. After reaching Badal Danda, check into your hotel/lodge and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Day 9 

Badal Danda (3,210 m.) – Siding (1,280 m.) – Pokhara (822 m.)

Walking Duration: Approximately 7–8 Hours
Driving Duration: Approximately 3 Hours
Trek End Point: Siding
Overnight: Hotel in Pokhara

Today is the final trekking day of your adventure.

After breakfast, begin the long downhill walk from Badal Danda toward Siding, following beautiful forest trails and gradually descending toward the lower valleys.

The approximately 7–8-hour descent takes you through changing landscapes as the high-altitude environment gives way to greener hills and lower-elevation villages.

Upon reaching Siding, you will have lunch and officially complete the trekking portion of your journey.

Your female trekking guide will then organize the jeep transfer from Siding to your hotel in Pokhara.

The drive takes approximately 3 hours, although the actual arrival time may vary depending on road conditions and traffic.

You can expect to arrive in Pokhara in the late afternoon, around 4:00 PM or later, depending on your walking pace, rest and lunch time, road conditions, and traffic.

After checking into your hotel, enjoy a well-deserved rest and celebrate the successful completion of your unforgettable Poon Hill – Mardi Himal Trek.
